I was just a fourteen-year-old boy when Bobby died
Afraid to go to school that day, I was shocked and dazed inside
Fearful of the future in a sad and wounded land
The meaning of the sacrifice, I could not understand

Extraordinary deeds are done by ordinary souls
It’s easy to forget this when our history is told
But climb up on his pedestal and you’ll hear Bobby say
Everybody has their part to play

Barely days go by when I don’t think of Bobby Sands
His spirit of achievement soars beyond the five demands
Look down on sworn enemies, who chat on Flanders field
To a vision of the future when our wounded land is healed

Extraordinary deeds are done by ordinary souls
It’s easy to forget this when our history is told
But climb up on his pedestal and you’ll hear Bobby say
Everybody has their part to play

So let’s remember Bobby and everyone who died
So many grieving families, so deep the hurt inside
It’s time for building bridges, to lend a healing hand
The meaning of the sacrifice I start to understand
